If Ciresi challenges Franken in the primary, he would not damage Franken or the Dems in the same way Jesse would. If Ciresi loses the primary, he gets out of the race and isn't a factor on election day. If Ciresi wins the primary, then it proves Dems will have a better chance with Ciresi on the ticket.
